The biggest mountain range in Cyprus is named Troodos Mountains with it’s the highest peak Mount Olympus (1952 m). The mountains stretch across the most of the western part of Cyprus with picturesque villages in the valleys and small churches on the peaks. During winter time snow lies on the tops of the mountains and it is a great opportunity for the ski lovers.
The World Heritage List of UNESCO is filled in the Troodos Byzantine churches. There are nine mountain churches and one monastery on that list famous of Byzantine art. Apart of that must see the most famous and richest Kykkos Monastery.
The Cyprus villages are well known for their hospitality, exotic wildlife, local cuisine, beautiful views and adventure natural trails. The most famous mountain resort is Platres. Well known for all the Cypriot wanted to hide from the heat of summer on the coast. We can find many comfortable mountains hotels there.
When we travel through the mountains we can observe scattered along hogbacks and many vineyards with the different varieties of grapes. Almost in every mountain village we can find a vinery and try local wine. The most famous wine village is Omodos and it is really worth to visit.
